New Monthly Feature: Kung Fu Theatre!

Brewvies is proud to present a new monthly series of Kung-Fu cinema classics! Each month we will present a different film from the Kung-Fu genre ranging from the classic Shaw Brothers canon, to the films of the masters; i.e. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc, all the way down to the Kung-Fu/Blaxploitation flicks of the 1970's.

For the 3rd installment of Kung-Fu Theater we're proud to present the legendary classic Drunken Master!!!

Wong Fei Hung, or "Freddie" (played by the incomparable Jackie Chan) is the spoiled, mischievous young son of a martial arts school master who is constantly clowning around when he should be studying his craft. After his comic antics injure the son of a powerful local clansman, his father enlists the help of his sadistic uncle So to teach his son a little self discipline. Enter the Drunken Master, (played to comic perfection by the inimitable Sam Seed) an inebriated old hermit with a reputation for crippling his students! He takes Fei Hung as his pupil, instructing him in the technique of the Eight Drunken Immortals, a bizarre but highly effective style of Kung-Fu requiring extreme physical stamina and a shitload of wine! At first, Fei Hung resists, but after losing in a humiliating fight with the notorious assassin Yan Ti San or "Thunderfoot", who has been hired by a ruthless land baron to murder his father, he realizes he must master the insane art of Drunken Boxing... even if he is crippled trying!

Directed by the legendary Yuen Wo Ping, (whose impressive Hong Kong filmography resulted in his choreographing fight sequences in The Matrix, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Kill Bill) Drunken Master ushered in a new brand of Kung-Fu films, where comedy plays as prominent a role as honor and revenge, and set a new standard for fight choreography in Kung-Fu cinema.

Come kick back a couple of cold ones to the uncontested slice of Kung-Fu mania that is Drunken Master, but don't try any of these Kung-Fu stunts at home....
.....especially while drunk!!!

This month's feature is FREE!

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Sherlock Holmes has always been the smartest man in the room…until now. There is a new criminal mastermind at large —Professor Moriarty — and not only is he Holmes' intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade, points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder—a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by Professor Moriarty. The cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead of Holmes as he spins a web of death and destruction—all part of a greater plan that, if he succeeds, will change the course of history.
